Introduction

Through Geneva College's Microsoft Office 365 subscription, all students, faculty and staff will be able to download and install the latest version of Microsoft Office to their personal computers, laptops and tablet devices. This functionality will be rolled out initially to students with faculty and staff to follow later.

Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus

The Microsoft Office 365 subscription will allow download of the latest version of Microsoft Office – currently Office 2016 for WindowsOffice 2011 for Mac (OS X 10.8, 10.9) and Office 2016 for Mac (OS X 10.10+). The Office 365 license will allow the download and local install of Microsoft Office applications on up to five computers that you personally use, including regular access to the latest software updates. Those applications are: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Publisher, OneNote and of course Outlook (email). When you download and install the applications, Skype and OneDrive will also be installed. These 2 applications are not enabled at this time and will not function.

**This benefit ends when you leave Geneva as a student, faculty or staff but you can continue to use the software by purchasing through Microsoft.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Geneva owned PC’s and laptops do not get their Office software license from Office 365 but from an image that is built by Information Technology Services.  PLEASE DO NOT attempt to install Office 365 ProPlus applications on Geneva owned computers.

Get Started

When you are logged into the Office 365 portal, go to the settings (gear) icon at the top right of your window, and select “Office 365 settings” from the menu. In the new window, select the “Software” option, and then follow the instructions to install.

The Microsoft portal auto-detects your operating system, presenting you currently with:

NOTE: Downloaded software will be installed separately from any previous versions of Microsoft Office, so if you have an older version of Office and install Office 2013 or 2016, you will have two different copies of Microsoft Office that are accessible.

You may install Office 365 ProPlus on up to five (5) non Geneva-owned computers that you personally use. You will be prompted for your login (username@Geneva.edu and password) in order to install the applications. After installation, Microsoft will verify your Office 365 account in the background – you may be prompted to re-authenticate your license.

DO NOT install Office 365 ProPlus on public computers. Just as you would not share your myGeneva account with others, do not share your Geneva Office 365 access.

Support

Geneva Information Technology Services cannot support personal devices unless they are student owned and on campus. For faculty and staff personal device installation issues, please consult Microsoft online help.

For additional information:

NOTE: All of these offerings from Microsoft provide the look and feel for general versions of Office 2013, Office 2016 for Mac and the Office online applications, and will help you familiarize yourself with the applications. They are not exact in look and feel to the Office 2010 installed versions on Geneva-owned devices.
